《英格蘭人的歷史》(The English and their History)這部書被《經濟學人》(The Economist)雜誌選為2014年最佳歷史類書，現仍高據亞馬遜網上書店(Amazon.com)歷史理論與方法(註1)書類最暢銷書榜第一名。作者Robert Tombs教授在英國劍橋大學教法國歷史。
英格蘭有2,000年歷史，是歷史上最悠久的民族(註2)。(大家注意這裡講的是英格蘭人，不是英國人。英國的民族主要包括英格蘭人，蘇格蘭人和威爾斯人)(註3)。英格蘭人是世界上議會政治的始創者(註4)。英國政府的集體負責制和獨立的律政系統(註5)(也是英格蘭人創辦)數百年來對歐洲大陸國家影響深遠。從歷史理論層面看，英格蘭人鼓吹的多元主義和移民/殖民主義(註6)對其他民族具有深遠的影響。
英國的《快報》(The Express)有篇評論認為Tombs 教授這部書內容豐富，有如在耶誕節英國人愛吃的葡萄乾布丁一樣(註7)。
